An 888 km long Self-Supported Ultra-Cycling Rallye through Germany – France – Switzerland

The shortest route is not always the fastest…

THE ROUTE

FLATY888 is a free route ultra-cycling rallye where you create your own route. You have to pass all 8 checkpoints to get into the time ranking and to be a successfull finisher. The route will touch the Palatinate Forest, French Vosges, Swiss Jura, Swabian Alb and Black Forest. The exciting question: What is probably the fastest route to the finish? All public roads, paths and ferries (!) are permitted. Experience has shown that it is not the shortest route that is the fastest, but rather the best combination of asphalt and (depending on personal preference) gravel. Our reference route (with less gravel) is 888 km and has a maximum elevation gain of 8888 meters. We are very excited about your individual routing strategy.

CP

THE RALLYE

Accreditation, professional bike check, equipment check and pasta from 12:00 noon. The rallye starts at 6:00 p.m. sharp with a joint start of 88 riders. Finish cut-off time is 88 hours. Until then we’ll be waiting for you back at the finish line with pasta & co. If you take longer, you will still be listed on the finisher list (but the finish may no longer be manned). Whether you ride FLATY888 as a race or ride, at speed or as a personal challenge, it’s up to you!

THE CODEX

The mode is self-supported. Only the use of publicly accessible infrastructure is permitted. FLATY888 checkpoints are unmanned. There is no infrastructure provided by the organizer such as food, showers, technology, etc. FLATY888 is a real self-supported adventure where you are completely on your own from start to finish.

Self-supported means you can use everything you find along the way, but not things that are just for you. Any support you receive must be equally available to everyone else. This could include buying supplies at the grocery store along the way, staying overnight at a public campsite, or filling your bike bottles with water from a well. For example, camping in a friend’s garden would be prohibited because it is not open to the public. Likewise, providing food by supporters on the way or booking hotels before the start.

THE BIKE

FLATY888 is a free route allroad rallye. Some checkpoints are in the off-road area. Therefore, you will need to think about tire type and width. A road or gravel bike isn’t the worst choice. Of course, a MTB also works, but it is not absolutely necessary.

THE TRACKING

When accredited, drivers receive a GPS tracker on loan, which they wear on their bike or body throughout the entire Ultra Rallye. The respective position and time ranking of all participants are displayed on the Internet via followmychallenge.
